Guys, we made it to Season 4 of the show. Thanks to everyone who reached out during our time away; even God took a break, so who are we not to!
This episode is a brief welcome and to let you in on the activities of my life since you last heard from me. With the New Year comes new goals, and mine cut across all aspects of my life - career, family, relationships, health and fitness, and of course, the podcast.
This year, I decided to take my health seriously by doing two things – eating mindfully, which involves juicing green vegetables and fruits for breakfast and lunch and maximizing wholesome nutrients for dinner AND working out 5-6 times weekly. Shout out to my friend, Linda Jena, for being my workout buddy and introducing me to the possibility of a joy-filled bodily movement and the world of Sydney Cummings. Over time, due to multiple miscarriages, fertility treatments, and other health challenges, I have accumulated some excess wealth. Consequently, the identity of being fat is one I have held on to in a way that was dishonoring to God and my body. Snide remarks about my body certainly did not make it easier, especially from Africans who feel entitled to an opinion about a person's body. But here's the thing, you don't know what silent battles people are fighting behind closed doors. It's absolutely unkind to talk to people about their weight like they are oblivious of it. Let's all be gentle with our words.
This year, I am also being more intentional about the things that matter, more intentional about connecting with my husband, and shining my light because there is so much more to me. By sharing others' stories on the podcast, I have become more empathetic, reflective, and patient with people. Though not easy, I have become bolder and more confident in sharing my own stories, peeling off several layers of vulnerability.
Speaking of boldness, I actually also recorded a video of this episode. Check out the channel, should you feel inclined to judge the awkward tension between me and my camera:
Even though some naysayers have found this level of sharing uncomfortable, I am not deterred because the stories that I share are personal victories. Sending a big shout out to my husband, TDawg, and everyone who has supported me throughout this journey.
In this season, expect bolder and deeper conversations from a diverse array of guests. We will not certainly not be taking the path of least resistance, so get ready!
